Challenge 5: Compendium of Curiosities 3

Distress Water coloring!  You can find the technique on page 39 of A Compendium of Curiosities, Vol #3.  Well, Linda, I took inspiration from everyone in your team - The Curiosity Crew!  Candy, Yours started me out.  I wanted to create a "picture" like you did and also incorporate the little girl with wings.  It is ironic however that neither of those appears in the final process.  It  is funny how your really have no control of where your piece is going or ends up!  The little girl is sitting on my desk beautifully colored and waiting for a home!!  So here is how the rest of you have "inspired" me:  Linda, I borrowed your "trinket/flower". Anita, I stenciled a background (actually two different stencils by Tim), and used fabric.  Annette, I too love the dragonfly. It was my first time using it.  I don't know if you can see it, but after watercoloring, I added some sparkle with Clear Star Gelli Roll pen and covered it with glossy accents.  It looks so real!!! Cheryl, at the last minute I added some of Tim's damask stamps all over.  Hels, yours is the funniest, I kept struggling with how I was going to incorporate your "tear", and was thinking I may not be able to actually reach my goal of incorporating something from everyone.  but then I was struggling with what to do on the background and finally landed on us a background paper from Tim's Wallflower collection. (I almost never us pattern paper, yet I keep buying it!) Then it hit me to add a little interest by "tearing" it!!  I love how it came out, but was not sure if I should have added something the the white that is showing through.  Marge, I don't have have any word stencils, so I stamped them instead.  Susan, I too tried to use your "purple" and added a combination of peacock feathers, evergreen bough and Iced Spruce. Yvonne, I think your nib fits perfectly.

Further "inspiration" comes from Inspiration Emporium who is sponsoring this weeks challenge!

Well if you gotten this far -thanks for reading!!  Here are some pics.

  1. Jules....I love Tim's blueprint dragon fly and you have rocked this water color challenge with it! I love the top of your box and the teal matting around your dragonfly piece. The machine stitching looks fabulous and adds those special little "extras". Your dragonfly is beautifully colored. Jules...I could TOTALLY relate to what you were saying about not knowing where your piece is going to end up once you get started. That is exactly the way I create. :) So, I am so honored that my project inspired you to create that darling little winged girl. I am sure where ever she flutters off to, she will land on something amazing! Thank you so much for your sweet words on your blog post and thanks for sharing this amazing piece with us at CC3C. <3 Candy
